Itinerary
Day 1+
Your trip begins with a 35-minute flight from Quito to Coca where staff will pick you up and take you to a local hotel, located on the banks of the Napo River. There, the guides will explain to you about safety before embarking on a 2 ½ boat trip on the Napo River, the largest tributary of the Amazonas. During the trip you get a taste of the Amazon; ancestral communities, birds, such as herons, egrets, vultures, while enjoying a delicious picnic. The canoe ride is followed by a 15-minute walk through the flooded forest and a 20-minute canoe ride through the beautiful “Challuacocha” lake.
At the end of the day, you will have a short walk on the nearby trails, or, a canoe ride with lots of chances to observe primates, Amazonian birds, black caimans and an encounter with the amazing flora, represented by cedars, orchids and bromeliads. Return to the Lodge, where our chef will be happy to offer a wide variety of national and international dishes.
Day 2+
After breakfast, you will have a great experience looking at the treetops from the observation tower which is 36 meters above the ground. To get there, at the tower, you will paddle on the “Challuacocha” lake for 30 minutes, followed by a short 10-minute walk. More than 565 species of birds have been recorded to date, including colorful birds such as macaws, toucans, honeycreepers, tanagers, flycatchers, hummingbirds and with any luck, a close-up view of howlers, squirrel monkeys or sloths resting on the trees. The tower gives you a unique perspective, opening up a whole new world of Amazonian biodiversity that is often difficult, if not impossible, to see in the undergrowth. The trip continues exploring nearby trails in search of more Amazonian creatures. Return to the Lodge for lunch.
After lunch, there are many activities that will please you, such as bird watching from the dining room, or simply relaxing on the hammocks. In the afternoon, hike along the “Chorongo” or “Coto” trails, fantastic forest, terra-Firme, to discover the relationships between different living beings and the role they play in this complex ecosystem. Orchids, vines, strangle figs, ancient trees; Bromeliads are all part of this fabulous rainforest. Dinner at the Lodge.
After dinner, explore the black-water Oxbow Lake, one of the increasingly rare havens for the endangered black caiman, supporting a healthy population of these large crocodiles, up to 6 meters long. Return to the Lodge.
Day 3+
After breakfast, departure for the “Napo” river, aboard the boat, and visit the parrot “Lamederos” in the “Yasuní” national park, for a magnificent view of hundreds of parrots, looking for a space to rest and eat. Here you will see the “Mealy Amazon” parrots, Yellow-crowned, Orange-winged, and, Blue-headed parrots. Continue, with a hike to the south of the “Napo”, in the “Yasuní” national park, considered, for scientists, to be the area richest in biodiversity in the world. Here, some species, which cannot be found in the north, might be spotted: sooty golden tamarins and spider monkeys, blue and yellow macaws, and, with a little luck, an encounter with white-lipped or collared peccaries. Return to “Sani Community Center” to visit a typical house, to get a taste of how a typical “Kichwa” family lives.
Enjoy their food, drinks, customs and culture of the “Sani” community, and, learn, how the lifestyle of the local people is environmentally friendly. After dinner, take a night walk to see myriads of insects, spiders and frogs come to life
