Itinerary
CANOPY WALK+
Imagine walking through the rainforest, crossing a 36 meter high bridge above the treetops. Secured to the ground by three metal towers, this sturdy 275-meter (940-foot) walkway offers an incredible opportunity to spot dozens of animals and epiphytes rarely seen from the ground, immersed in the canopy. You'll see troops of monkeys or at least hear them: howler monkeys roaring through the sunset like true kings of the jungle.
TOUR KAPOK+
You'll feel like you're on top of the world on our 43-meter (135-foot) observation tower, a platform built on the highest branches of a giant kapok tree. From here you'll see stunning panoramic views of the forest, while the area's 500 recorded bird species, including rainbow-colored toucans and parrots, become easy to spot.
YASUNI PERROQUET LICK+
Sacha Lodge is close to Ecuador's most accessible parrot lake and exposed clay bank where multi-colored parrots of several different species congregate early in the morning. In ideal conditions (sunny and dry), hundreds of parrots will perch and eat the exposed clay in a spectacular display of sound and color! It is located on the edge of Yasuni National Park,
LA MAISON DE PAPILLONS+
Sacha Lodge is home to one of the largest butterfly farms in Ecuador. Designed as a live display conservatory, the Butterfly House is currently successfully breeding nearly 40 local butterfly species. You can discover how these beautiful insects are raised and can roam in The Flying Room, where hundreds of colorful butterflies flit from flower to flower.
BALADES DANS LA FORET+
Creeping along jungle trails through the spotlight of sunlight filtering through the canopy, careful not to step on an army of marching ants, your nature guide will point out plants and insects and the fascinating symbiosis between them. He might take you through the territory of great crested owls or spider monkeys, skillfully imitating the creatures' call to gain their trust and persuade them to hide. When night falls, have your flashlight ready to spot creatures of the night, from tarantulas and boas to insects and frogs
BALADES EN PIROGUES+
In addition to being your means of transport between expeditions, sailing in canoes is a fabulous adventure. Going down the streams is like entering a tunnel leading to a lost world. Birds will accompany you with their songs and vast families of monkeys jump from branch to branch above your heads, a spectacle which can coincide with sunset.
OBSERVATION DE CAIMAN DANS LA NUIT+
A nighttime expedition in search of caimans on the lake is perhaps the most magical experience of an already full of wonder adventure. Under the cover of darkness, you'll drive a canoe across the water, lit your way by twinkling stars. The caiman's eyes glow a macabre red in the torchlight, while the amphibious creatures float along the marshy shallows.
OBSERVATION DES OISEAUX / BIRDWATCHING+
Of the 1,600 bird species recorded in Ecuador, 600 (37%) have been observed at Sacha Lodge. That's almost 7% of the species present worldwide!
For keen birders, we can provide specialist birding guides who know the best locations for hard-to-find species and can easily identify species both by sight and sound. Oscar Tapuy, our local expert who has worked in Sacha since 1995, estimates that he detects 60 species per day on average. Guides carry telescopes and have become accustomed to taking photos with your camera or phone through the lenses.
VISITEZ LA COMMUNAUTE PROVIDENCIA DE YASUNI+
Our visit takes us to the Shipati Warmi Project, an initiative set up by and for the benefit of the women of the Providencia community of Yasuní. Through discreet dialogue, we learn about their daily lives: how to dry clothes in the jungle and the challenges of getting to school before helping to prepare and try traditional dishes. It is an intimate and unique experience in which we discover the differences and similarities between our own culture and another. The Shipati Warmi Project asks each guest to make a $5 donation.
PISCINE AU LAC+
Ideal for families, the lake swimming pool is unique in the Amazon region. The plunge pool, protected by a mesh cage, allows you to cool off and relax in the black shallows of Lake Pilchicocha, without fear of meeting the unknown. You can even spot caimans and giant otters swimming on the other side of the net.
